Red Bull Music Academy Announce Los Angeles Festival October 2017

special guest Egyptian Lover at the RBMA Festival press conference in LA

Monday, August 14th, 2017:

Red Bull Music Academy invited press and VIPs to Resident in downtown for the grand announcement of their inaugural Los Angeles RBMA Festival. The event series, which has been in New York the past few years, is set to take place this October 6-29, while the Red Bull Sound Select sponsored 30 Days In L.A. series will move to Chicago this Fall. The promise is that where 30 Days was a straightforward concert series, RBMAF will be a high concept, in depth experience for the “obsessive music fan”.

The Academy started in Berlin 20-years ago and now has annual festivals in Tokyo, Sao Paolo, U.K. Paris, Sydney, Johannesburg, N.Y.C. as well as adding Los Angeles for the first time. Over 50 recording artists, DJs, filmmakers and industry professionals will assemble for 24-days to push the boundaries of how we experience music. Unique spaces and some familiar venues will be transformed to add a visual and sonic boost to each performer’s show in a way they are typically not able to achieve due to budgetary restrictions and limited resources. These events will range from performances, dance parties, panel discussions and recording studio lectures.

One of the big names to see will be indie rock singer/songwriter St. Vincent. After seeing the RBMA collaboration with Solange at New York’s Guggenheim Museum, St. Vincent’s team realized the energy drink company could be the answer to producing the ambitious show they’d been dreaming of. This new production will debut during the festival before heading out on a limited engagement tour.

Other Events to look forward to include:

- A (For 100 Cars): artist Ryoji Ikeda will transform the sound systems of 100 cars into a unified symphony

- Open Beta: a 4-Day warehouse event featuring Arca, Sophie and 2 separate concept parties in which the space and sound design will be dramatically changed each night.

- Alice Coltrane experience showcasing her Ashram devotional music produced between the 80’s – 2004.

- Rail Up: L.A. based party crew ramp up their popular world inspired dance event with artists from Portugal, Jamaica and more.

- Todos Es Metal – a Mexican heavy metal festival within the festival

- Diggin’ In The Carts: Japanese video game composers performing live concerts of their classic soundtracks

- Bollywood disco party featuring live appearance by the legendary Bappi Lahiri

- Discussions with rapper/actor Ice-T, filmmaker Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim), video director Floria Sigismondi (Marilyn Manson, Bjork, Rihanna) and more

- Uncle Jamm’s Army reunion/tribute: legendary 70s/80s L.A. DJ crew and promoters reunite with members Egyptian Lover and Ice-T as the headliners along with guests

RBMA will be adding context to the many events via their radio station, editorials and supplementary video pieces on their site redbullmusicacademy.com

Full lineup and schedule will be released this week with tickets going on sale Tuesday, August 22nd.
