#CIRCUSSXSW: Hiatus Kaiyote
When people think of the Australian music scene, most times the thoughts lead to hard rock or Olivia Newton John's pop ode to aerobic activity. A seven piece band out of the east coast city of Melbourne hope to change that perspective. Hiatus Kaiyote draw from influences as wide ranging as Stevie Wonder and opera to create soulful music with a futuristic feel. Led by co-founder and lead singer Nai Palm, the group makes music that touches energizes the soul. Their debut release EP Tawk Tomahawk made fans of Erykah Badu and Gilles Peterson, who made the album his pick for Album of the Week. Now as they seek to make their mark on the American music scene, they bring their folksy brand of electro soul to our very own SXSW showcase The Circus, going down Friday, March 15.
