One of the dopest things about musicianship is how expansive and creative it can be. You never really know what to expect when you hear that a new song comes out. I mean...you can try but it does not quite always work out the way we think it will, right? When we hear certain artists, you picture in your mind what the sound will be like. I can honestly admit that I do it. Thankfully, the moments when I'm wrong brings me to a new appreciation for that particular artist. That is how I felt when I was asked to take a listen to the new Lil' John Roberts track "Get Right" from his soon to be released album The Heartbeat. And man...oh man...OH MAN!

For those of you who are unaware of exactly who Lil' John is, allow me to hip you to his resume. He's a graduate of the prestigious Berklee School of Music, native of Philadelphia, and currently residing in the ATL. The brother has worked with everyone from Snoop Dogg, Jill Scott, Mos Def, the Queen (Latifah that is), Ms. Patti Patti (LaBelle), Yolanda Adams, BB King, Al Green, and Bilal. He's scored television shows such as American Idol, The Queen Latifah Show, The Mo'Nique Show, various BET, Billboard, MTV, and American Music Awards shows, and OPRAH!! (CAPS CAPS CAPS). He's produced for Dionne Farris ("THEY SAY I'M HOPELESS!!!" Sorry...my jam..my bad), Rachelle Ferrell, and Walter Beasley. This kind of impressive resume does not happen for a person who does not have a gift. Roberts has that gift, which you will have an opportunity to enjoy quiet soon. Heartbeat will feature a myriad of amazing talent such as Eric Roberson, Anthony David, and Stokley from Mint Condition.

So in the meantime, take a listen to this Couch Sessions exclusive. Featuring Sa-Roc and Sol Messiah, Roberts gives us the first single from his upcoming album. If your toes don't tap and head nods while you listen to Roberts play the drums and on vocals, accompanied by Tres Gilbert (bass), Phil Davis (keys), Clarence TLee Hill (keys), and Derek Scott (guitar), then check your pulse. This one is definitely perfect as we approach the spring.

You can keep up with all things Lil' John Roberts on his website, twitter, facebook, and instagram. Keep up with this guy. He is definitely one you will want to keep on rotation.
