EVENT: 4th Annual Soul of Brooklyn Week

The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) and Soul of Brooklyn are proud to announce the 4th annual Soul of Brooklyn Week August 17-25,  2013. Soul of Brooklyn Week brings together and celebrates the best of the borough’s  African Diasporan arts and culture while promoting partnerships between local arts organizations and black businesses in Brooklyn. Attracting over 20,000 attendees, Soul of Brooklyn Week features concerts, film screenings, plays, festivals, workshops, art activations and more!

Aligned with MoCADA’s current exhibition of abstract work by Black artists, Pattern Recognition, Soul of Brooklyn Week opens with a block party featuring futuristic musicians abstract random and Shabazz Palaces. As the week continues, thousands of arts enthusiasts will celebrate Brooklyn’s rich cultural heritage. Highlights of Soul of Brooklyn Week include performances by The Jeff King Band and Brandon Sanders at Bed Stuy Brewery, and a closing block party at Brooklyn’s well-known AFROPUNK festival. Also of note will be Brooklyn’s 1st Annual Beer and Wine Festival presented by Tap + Cork, and H Street: a comedic play about gentrification performed right on the outdoor stoop of Bill Lee, acclaimed musician and father of filmmaker Spike Lee.
