EVENT: Tasting It All at Brooklyn Eats 2013

DSC_0013

Brooklyn has already established itself as a key player in the food game that practically rivals Manhattan - and to step things up a notch, Brooklyn Eats came to town, dubbed as the borough's first ever "fancy-food" trade show.  A wide array of vendors gathered in East Williamsburg's former Pfizer building this past June 26 and featured everything you could possibly imagine - from fruit roll-ups to gazpacho to seltzer to beef jerky and much, much more.

Launched by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and Edible Brooklyn, the event was a great chance for the city's buyers, restaurant and shop owners, and also the general public to sample a taste of everything - which I most certainly did!  Some recognizable names, such as Kelvin Natural Slush Co. and People's Pops made an appearance - other, smaller vendors, such as Owl's Brew (tea crafted to go with cocktails) were a huge hit as were the marshmallows and other treats at JoMart Chocolates - and there were so much more I couldn't possibly have room to name.

My personal favorite note of the day: the amount of gluten-free vendors - I had never eaten so many gluten-free treats in one sitting, and I'm in love with the thin mint cookie and salted caramel cup I sampled from vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free bakery Lael.  From the looks of Brooklyn Eats, the borough is taking great steps to make sure that everyone, regardless of dietary restrictions, can take part in Brooklyn's food revolution.
