Janelle Monae Rocks The Gibson Guitar Showroom (WDC) With Tracks From Her Upcoming Album The Electric Lady

Janelle Monáe was in town Tuesday night to preview tracks from her upcoming album The Electric Lady.

We’ve all been to at least one album listening party.  You’re all excited to be there until the artist starts to drone on and on about what inspired this album and maybe, if you’re lucky, the artist might sit down at a piano and perform a song or two.

Enter Janelle Monáe to totally destroy the image of listening parties that you’re used to.

Janelle Monáe listening parties are an event, mini concerts where Monáe dances and jumps on a couch, lip synchs and sings the lyrics to her songs and even leads the crowd in the old family reunion/wedding favorite, the “Electric Slide”, as she shares her latest music with her fans.

It’s been three years since 2010’s The ArchAndroid and Monáe is still offering up her brand of spaced out funk and soul but seems to have mixed in elements of jazz, and pop for The Electric Lady.

Monáe previewed six tracks from The Electric Lady, whose title was inspired by Monáe’s onstage paintings while she was on tour, the Erykah Badu assisted, party starter “Q.U.E.E.N.”, the album title track “Electric Lady”, the sensual, definite future single “Primetime” features Miguel, “Victory”, the break up song “We Were Rock & Roll” and “What An Experience”.

The Electric Lady is in stores on Tuesday, September 10 or available for pre-order now.
