LIVE: Lo End Theory, The Howard Theatre, DC

Hip hop shows are a dime a dozen now, but the rare gem is a GOOD show –you know ones without all the pyrotechnics and crazy guest stars.  Not saying that those shows aren't good, but sometimes you just need a good old fashion show with raw emcees.  When I heard that the Lo End Theory feat. Sean Price, Roc Marciano, Buckshot, Thirstin Howl III & The Lo-lifes were coming to the Howard Theatre I immediately marked the date on my calendar.   The host for the evening was Dallas Penn of the Combat Jack Show who filled a lot of the evening with his brand of sarcasm and wit. The show kinda lagged during certain parts, but the highlight of the evening for me was Roc Marciano, the Long Island rapper’s flow just pulls you into whatever subject matter he’s rapping about—I still feel that Marcberg is a dope album (Word to Questlove for hipping me to it).   Sean P’s set was boisterous, crass and hilariously comical –just the way I remembered him to be.   All in all it was a good night for real hip-hop.
