LIVE: RedBull presents A$AP Mob w/ Drake
Day 30: The grand finale! RedBull Sound Select capped of their 30 Days In LA with a sold out show at the Hollywood Palladium with A$AP Mob and RBSS acts Saba and Tink. A$AP is a name you hear often but it never occurred to me the following they have. The couple thousand in attendance prove that the power of radio and soundscan statistics truly don’t mean much in the modern music industry.
Chicago is currently a breeding ground for hot rappers and Saba is one of them. Trap style beats rumbled the many who showed up early to get a spot near the front. Saba gave them a headline worthy show, running the entire stage non-stop for 40-minutes. Up next was another Chi-Town native, Tink, who has recently made big noise. The Rick Ross track “Movin’ Bass” featuring Jay-Z is actually Tink’s song. With a leak to DJ’s, the Tink version has been circulating and making her one to watch as we near a release date for her Timbaland produced album.
Brooklyn representers A$AP Rocky, Ferg, Twelvy, Nast and Ant may not be household names but by the reaction of the crowd they truly have hits! Over an hour of tracks, mostly from Rocky and Ferg’s solo albums, dropped to overwhelming enthusiasm as hook after hook was chanted verbatim. RedBull has shocked crowds over the last month with surprise guests like Lil Wayne and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo popping up at random shows. I guess you could say they saved the best for last as the hit song “Tuesday” banged out the speakers and none other than Drake ran out to the now insane sea of fans. A quick couple minutes and he was gone, but the people were there for A$AP. It’s hard to believe but they actually finished the hour plus long show without even doing hits like “Fuckin’ Problem”. Drake was right there! Do the song! Oh well, as Rocky said, “more for next time.”
Thank you RedBull Sound Select for an amazing November.
