Real Hip Hop shows are slowly becoming a lost artform.  So, it was refreshing to attend HipHopGods.com’s  Hip-Hop Gods Classic Tourfest Revue featuring Public Enemy and hip-hop luminaries Schoolly D, Monie Love, Son of Bazerk,  Leaders of the new School, X-Clan, Wise Intelligent (Poor Righteous Teachers), Awesome Dre and Davy DMX.  The tour kicked off in Washington DC at the 9:30 Club and will travel across the country ending in Los Angeles on December 13th.  HipHopGods.com is the first fully-comprehensive community for the old school hip hop fans. Developed by BTNEastlink in association with Chuck D, HipHopGods.com aims to “encompass and empower the hip hop nation,” Chuck D explains, and “to have the hip hop community get and keep a hold on itself and connect the legacy.”

Chuck D, who also provided hosting duties, was the glue that made the show bond cohesively, after each performer’s set he pulled a “Don Corneilous” and had a conversation with the artist to inform the audience on their current endeavors, and how to stay connected with them via social media networks.

Wise Intelligent , Monie Love and Schoolly D perform PSK were just a few of  the highlights of the show.  The unfortunate thing was the Leaders of the New School set, Charlie Brown didn’t  show up, but Dinco D held his own, so kudos to him for that.  By the time Public Enemy got on stage the crowd was more than ready for them. Dropping classics “Fight the Power”, “911 is a Joke” and more –come on I’m not going to give the whole set list away.  What impressed me most was Flavor Flav on the bass and drums which showcased that he was more than just the jokester.

If you happen to live in one of the cities that the revue is coming to, it’s worth the ticket price. The remaining tourdates are below.
