LIVE: Wax On Wax, Red Bull 30 Days In LA Kick Off

It's finally here! Red Bull officially kicked off their 2015 30 Days In LA concert and event series this past Sunday.  The first of 30 was Wax On Wax, an all vinyl DJ throw down at Madame Tussaude's wax museum in Hollywood.  This event was a hugely entertaining night last year, and with a few tweaks they made it better this time around.
Guests mingled with wax celebrities in an interactive environment that at times had you guessing who was real and who was fake.  But this is Hollywood, so what's new.  Last year the roof was the designated party area featuring one big stage for DJs and a pop up vinyl market featuring some of the best stores in LA.  This time they invited 4 promoters and labels to each curate an area inside the museum which offered options to jump around and a much more dynamic social environment.  The vinyl market was still there to greet at you entered, along with guys in lab coats pressing promotional records on the spot!
The first level near the roof when you enter was held down by Seattle based indie label Sub Pop who's line up, which included The Postal Service, spun alternative sounds while a wax Bieber and Selena Gomez were positioned on opposite sides of the room.  Awkward.  The lower level's Marvel room featured DJ Drama among others who had the Trap beats pumping and a packed room of folks taking photos with stars of the Avengers movies.  The middle floor had 2 areas, of which the action movie room featured Ali Shaheed Muhammad from the legendary A Tribe Called Quest playing a three hour set of Funk, Hip-Hop, Salsa and more, all thanks to Afropunk.  The highlight was the closing set in the Wild West movie room where Tuxedo, aka Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One, took a break from touring for a special DJ appearance. Last year Hawthorne rocked an hour of rare grooves but in true Tuxedo form the duo played late 70s/early 80s Disco and Soul club classics that had the place 2 stepping shoulder-to-shoulder 'til the party ended.
One down, 29 more nights to go.
