Rome Fortune and Kali Uchis at the Legendary Park Plaza Hotel in LA

Sunday night, Red Bull Sound Select returned for day 15 of their current 30 Days in LA series. Despite reports calling for rain, folks showed up to the Legendary Park Plaza Hotel’s courtyard ready to eat, dance, and groove to performances by Kali Uchis, Rome Fortune, and QUITAPENAS. Deejays kept the crowd dancing in between sets while food trucks helped to keep the crowd well nourished.
The evening kicked off with Southern California natives and Red Bull Sound Select group, QUITAPENAS, opening the show in celebratory fashion with an energetic performance of Afro-Latin tunes. Later, Rome Fortune, the newest addition to the Fools Gold roster, hit the stage fresh off his European tour. Although jetlagged, he gave an amped up performance of personal-tinged tracks including his recent collaboration with Toro y Moi, “Benjiminz.”
As the night started to wind down there was no doubting whom the crowd was there to see. The crowd grew electric as Columbian songstress, Kali Uchis, stepped into the spotlight and started crooning. Her fans came bearing gifts in the form of a handmade wrap and a love letter. Kali Uchis was appreciative of the gifts and she reciprocated the love by serenading a fan onstage and allowing another fan to join her in singing “Know What I Want.” After exiting the stage the crowd wanted more and started chanting for an encore. They wanted to hear the ballad, “Loner,” and Kali Uchis willingly obliged.
It was a festive evening with an enthusiastic crowd. Kali Uchis kept them enthralled and made it a truly memorable night for everyone in attendance.
