Every time I’m in Hell's Kitchen I see a new restaurant. It’s a neighborhood that is constantly changing and that’s evolved to fit all different types of people. From the theatre crowd, to hip food connoisseurs, to the after work drinkers and the wide-eyed tourists, Hell's Kitchen’s food offerings are as diverse as its people. With so many options Ninth Avenue can be overwhelming if you’re not sure where to go. Recently, I discovered a new bar to add to my always handy, but completely in my head, Hell's Kitchen bar list that serves delicious food and of course, great drinks.

Convo Bar, located between 46th and 47th, is a wine and cocktail bar evoking a casual lounge feel. Bright pink walls are lined with wine bottles on the right side of the restaurant, as the entire left side is made up of the long bar. Offering a long wine list, the bar serves specialty cocktails infused with house created liquors, syrups, and spirits. The cocktails are creatively crafted and bring an interesting twist to favorites like Manhattans and mojitos. Their house cocktail, the Convo Manhattan, mixes bourbon, carpano aged vermouth, and bianco perfume, and tops it off with orange bitters.

The food menu is Italian inspired, and while it is focused on the pizza made in the wood fired oven, it also includes bar bites and fresh salads to round out the offerings. Sliders topped with buffalino mozzarella, antipasto meat tower and mac and cheese made with imported parmesan, the appetizers are the perfect happy hour bit to ease the after work drinks.

Convo’s signature menu item, their log fired pizza, is made fresh right in front of the bar. Each is made with fresh ingredients that can include sausage, meatballs, eggplant, prosciutto, sopressata, among others, all baked in the oven until they’re bubbling hot. Visible from the seats at the bar, you can watch as your pizza is crafted and served right in front of you. The pizzas come in individual servings for one or a larger pie to share, perfect for a date or large groups as well.

With great drinks, happy hour specials, and oven baked pizza, Convo Bar is the type of place that can bring together all types of people. So, the next time you’re wandering Ninth Avenue, just look for the signature top hat out front. That’s when you know you’ve found the right place.
