When one thinks of music native to Washington, D.C., go-go is the first sound that comes to mind.  But the District’s most famous crooner is arguably Marvin Gaye. Tragically taken from the world too soon, Marvin Gaye left a legacy with the politically charged album, What's Going On and so many other hits. Serving as the impetus behind the name of the U Street hotspot, this Thursday Marvin Restaurant will celebrate the life of Mr. Gaye.
The 8th annual celebration, which begins at 2PM, features performances by frequent collaborator Tammi Terrell, soul singer Maimouna Youssef, and Marvin Gaye’s original band, The Marquees.  Neighboring vinyl shop, Som Records will showcase the “Hitsville Pop-up Shop” with records from Marvin’s era for sale.  Drinks and food specials will be available on the rooftop deck from 2PM - 6PM.  And DJ Jaz Dux and DJ Keen Orr will be spinning classic hits throughout the day till closing.  All proceeds from Marvin Gaye Day will be donated to The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.  For more event information, visit Marvin's website or call (202) 797-7171.
