LIVE: Adia Victoria Hypnotizes at the Echo (Los Angeles)
On Wednesday night, Adia Victoria, a singer/songwriter whose presence is best described as a force of nature that refuses to be silenced, swept through the Echo in Los Angeles for one of the final dates of her West Coast tour in support of the 2016 full length release, Beyond the Bloodhounds. Her timing could not have been better, as there seemed to be a bizarre synchronicity between the intense yet somber vibes surrounding the City in the aftermath of the largest storm of the season and the similar emotions invoked by her performance. With an intense stare and conviction, Victoria took full control of the stage while effortlessly singing and playing a mélange of various sub-genres of blues, jazz, folk, and pop standards. She, along with her four piece band, performed favorites like “Head Rot,” “Howling Shame,” “Mortimer’s Blues,” and “Ain’t I a Woman” to the entranced crowd of fans. After putting on one hell of a show, Victoria and band exited the stage to end the night, but quickly returned for a final song after hearing chants for an encore.
As an introspective artist that is constantly exploring different places, studying various musical styles, and staying abreast of sociopolitical issues, it’s impossible to predict what she will be inspired to create in the future. Luckily, fan will not have to spend too much time waiting for her next output, as she announced the upcoming release (March 2017) of an ep of 1960s French Pop song covers.
