LIVE: Dej Loaf hits the Regent in LA

Night 18 of Red Bull Sound Select’s 30 Days in LA series featured Sampa the Great and Namasenda, alongside headliner Dej Loaf; the Detroit rapper that made waves in 2014 and 2015 with the banger “Try Me.” While many thought the rapper behind the viral hit would fall in the category of a "one and done,” Dej used the visibility as a foot in the door and has since dropped an EP (#AndSeeThatsTheThing), crafted hits with artists like Big Sean, Kid INK, and Eminem, and opened for Nicki Minaj on the Pinkprint tour.
In anticipation of Dej Loaf’s yet-to-be released debut album, a crowd of fans filled the Regent Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles to catch the rapper’s last LA area show of 2016. Dej, donning an blacked out fit, took to the stage on Friday night with the support of a DJ, drummer, and keyboardist to rock the crowd. Working the stage, Dej led the crowd as they recited the lines to bangers like the aforementioned “Try Me” along with “Back Up,” and “Me U & Hennessy.” For all the work that Dej put in that night and over the past 2 years, it was dope to see the love reciprocated by not only her fans, but by peers like Kid INK, Casey Veggies, and (the unexpected) Silkk the Shocker hopping onstage as special guests. Hopefully the next time Dej returns, she'll be performing tracks from her upcoming full length debut.
