When is Fat Trel coming out? Who is he signed to? These questions have been buzzing around for years, so on Thursday, September 3, Fat Trel came home with a few of his friends to perform to a thinly packed Howard Theatre. There were four opening acts but the one that stood out the most was Nooney. Nooney is a five foot tall brother with locs but the way he manifests the crowd with his enthusiasm and lyrics, made him 6 feet tall. Out of the opening acts, he actually managed to get the crowd to moving and by the end of his set with his cohort Lo. Nooney was the consummate gentleman and very receptive to me asking him a couple of questions and his social media handles, follow him on twitter @dadsmistake (yeah it caught me off guard too but great marketing, Nooney!). His mother was elated to be there for her son’s performance and beaming with pride as I informed him that as a media person, I felt he had the turnkey performance of the night. If you want to check out Nooney, his new project “No Training Wheels” can be found online.
Most musical connoisseurs know Trel from his affiliation with Slutty Boyz and it seems that now Trel is with MMG, his new music actually sounds closer to mainstream pop a la Nicki Minaj in the male form. Trel opened the show with a shout out to his moms and saying how she turns up and asked the crowd "Do y'all love yall moms?", the response was very lackluster. He had to take a moment and run it back like "You all don't love yall moms??? Let's try that again" (mom takes the stage to hype the crowd up) and he finally gets the reaction he wanted. Nevertheless the crowd ate it up when Trel, held hands, let the ladies grab on his sagging jeans and he got comfortable and took his shirt off as only Fat Trel can. Half naked with his hype man riding on a sky walker board around the stage (which he started halfway the show and into the audience as well), the real Fat Trel turn up began! In true MMG fashion, Trel had the entire Howard Theatre stage covered with over 50 SBSB crew. Performing to a very culturally diverse crowd, Trel came on, low and behold, I could not see the floor anymore and WPGC brought in the Back to School Jam the right way—with Fat Trel and one hell of a turn up performance and homecoming.
