LIVE: YG Does His Dance at Red Bull Sound Select's 30 Days in LA (Day 29)
Fresh off the release of the Red Friday mixtape, YG flamed up the Wiltern stage for a sold out homecoming show on Day 29 of Red Bull Sound Select’s 30 Days in LA concert series. The crowd packed the Koreatown venue early to grab goodies like the ’30 Days in LA’ 5-panel hats and to catch the sets of all of the dope acts on the lineup. Toronto’s own rapper/producer Tasha the Amazon was the first to tear down the stage with “Picasso Leaning” and other bangers from her new EP Die Every Day before Red Bull Sound Select artist Finding Novyon followed up with an energetic performance.
By the time DJ Vision started rocking the turntables, most sections on the floor of the Wiltern were filled to capacity. That didn’t stop the crowd from attempting the mannequin challenge or dancing when “Black Beatles” and “JuJu on That Beat” rocked the room. After a brief moment of silence, YG was erratically ushered onto the stage on a gurney as he kicked off the set with “Who Shot Me?;” a track explaining his mind-state after being shot after a studio session in 2015. Clad in his standard uniform of red flannel and locs, the Compton rapper arose from the gurney to an uproarious crowd before launching into “BPT” and hits like “My N*gga” and “Toot It and Boot It." YG made sure to show out for the home crowd with a surprise appearance by LA native DJ Mustard on “Who Do You Love.” Later into the night, a few lucky fans were invited onstage to beat down a Donald Trump piñata that descended from the rafters before YG performed his final song “FDT” with special guest, G-Eazy, for a climactic end.
