SG Lewis Puts The Vibes On At The Howard Theatre in Washington DC

Saturday is always a good day for music. Think about it, some of your best music days and nights fall on a Saturday. Well, for me this past Saturday was nothing short of amazing! I can thank the talented SG Lewis and Mindchatter for that. All of the new music that I experienced and hearing it live underneath one of the most infectious soundscapes ever was what any music lover longs for.

I was super excited to attend the SG Lewis concert who by far is one of my favorite artists-- he has been number 1 on my Spotify list for most played for 3 years straight now. I'll admit I got there a tad bit late,  but just in time to see that the place was packed and vibing out to some intense deep house from the DJ. Instantly, I was succumbed into euphoria and started to dance, and if you know me that pretty much started in the line outside. Seeing the crowd grow minute by minute also grew my anticipation more and gave way to my thoughts of this is going to an epic night for me and anyone who loves SG Lewis.

As I grabbed my choice of libation for the evening--an awesomely priced sugar free RedBull, which wasn’t too bad after all, the DJ started to wind down and the opening act hit the stage. He had a similar set up to SG but the computer on the end of his table gave it away. This was my first time hearing Mindchatter and I got  into his sound , vibe and the way blended his songs together to keep the crowd going and hands in the air. The song that really got me was “Tough As Nails” that echoey beat with that choppy piano with alien voice repeating the phrase “thats why I F*&$ wit you” hit different when the drop came andI found myself totally bouncing and hand in the air drenched in purple light. I love getting turned onto music this way. Other jams that smacked me in the face were “ just Gonna Exist” and “Scared to Go Home” .

After dancing with a camera in hand for about 40 mins i got the chance to relax but only for a moment, because now it was time to get ready the guy of the hour and his band, tear up the stage. Finding  a good spot to capture the night was tough but, I can credit the energy and fearlessness of the RedBull from earlier for that. It seemed the crowd became even larger and that’s because it did, but everyone was super happy and drinks flowed though the crowd by several handed couples and friends. All this through a gentle but thick purple fog that seemed to come from nowhere. And just then you see those light switch off to total darkness and fog and the crowd starts to yell, right after you hear someone say DC!

With a few of musical strikes and the chant of "DC!! Are you ready!", the party was under way with the kick off of the opening jam “One More” and can I tell you the crowd was Elated with joy and excited to feel the music and vibe out to that incredible guitar riff! I must have sung of the songs, because the girl next to me was like WOW! You know this? I was like yes this is my jam. “Infatuation” was a new song that I hadn't heard before...but, couldn’t help bouncing and being mesmerized by the way the audio sounded from his microphone, the mix of reddish orange lights that poured on the stage had sent the mood just right for my introduction to this song. The night went onto total sonic glory with the performance of "Sunset, pt2" --which had me signing so loud I didn't need a mic and could’ve hit the stage myself. “Feed The Fire” had the people so hype and a saw very impressive moves done by people dancing in such a tight space, but just as much it was a small place to dance, it happened and SG Lewis and his band along with an incredible opening act an infectious DJ, and maybe the greatest crowd to bless a Saturday night party made this night oh, so special to me and everyone who shared in this night at Howard Theatre.

SG Lewis is still on tour and I'd advise you to check it out....even if the date doesn't fall on a Saturday night!!
