CMJ PREVIEW: Bryan Ellis
Bay Area Native Bryan Ellis' story is as remarkable as his voice. Born on New Year's Eve., Bryan was a military child and consequently bounced from city to city. His mother was a huge musical influence as she was a singer at their church and exposed Bryan to artists like Stevie Wonder, Journey, and Bread.
He signed a production deal at 16 which ended in the arrest of his partner. At 18 he became a licensed mortgage broker and spent 12 hours a day working after getting his musical career get off to a failed start. After leaving the mortgage industry, Bryan wound up in New York City, performing for crowds in Times Square which has led him to his recently signed deal with Universal Republic.
With the release of his latest EP, Cloud of Unknowing, Bryan has definitely grabbed the attention of music tastemakers especially with the stand out track, "Wonderful Life".
You will be able to catch Bryan Ellis backed by Soundwave and many more artists at The Couch Sessions’ very own CMJ showcase, “The Circus” October 16 at Drom NYC. It’s free for badge holders and $10 for non badge holders. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online here.
