Lion Babe Rocks the Roxy in LA

Red Bull Sound Select artist, Nicholas L Perez's title is full of slashes; photographer – slash – musician – slash – installation artist – slash– photographer. At the Roxy on Tuesday night, Nicholas fused together a few of those slashes and made his musical set an experience that gave you the feels. Working off of a laptop and digital instruments, he mesmerized the crowd with dark, experimental tracks. This, combined with smoke machines and expertly curated lighting, created an atmosphere that had everyone in a trance.
Once Nicholas’ set ended, the curtains dropped and the anticipation for the soulful duo, Lion Babe, began to build up. 2015 has been a good year for Lion Babe. Earlier this year they dropped the amazing, groove heavy “Wonder Woman” with Pharrell. Then the massively successful act, Disclosure, dropped “Hourglass,” their collab with the duo as a promo single for their highly anticipated album, Caracal.
Once the curtains arose, you found 2 back-up singers and a band flanked by Lucas Goodman, ½ of the Lion Babe. Moments later, Jillian Hervey, the big-haired, sultry lead singer, strutted onto stage belting out fan favorites “Jump Hi” and “Wonder Woman.” The band played hard and Jillian kept up with the intensity; oftentimes rolling around on the stage and swinging her mane back and forth. Right before leaving the stage for the first time, they played new track “Where Do We Go” from their upcoming not-yet-titled debut album. Moments later, Jillian returned in a red sequins bodysuit to give a fiery performance of "Treat Me Like Fire" to end day 17 of Red Bull's 30 Days in LA.
