MUSIC: Alexis Glenn - Irrational Illustrations At Heart
Here's is Alexis Glenn, a young singer from the official mecca of black people and hip-hop, Atlanta. She dropped her debut mixtape recently and lets hear(read?) her tell about it, "“I titled the mixtape, Irrational Illustrations at Heart, because I think with my heart and never with my brain which causes me to act irrational almost all the time. It's me illustrating that in songs, and that is the real me. The initial thoughts not the ones that have been rationalized.” Which sounds like what every artist I know says after they've done some stupid stuff and their significant other is mad at them.

Despite her speech Glenn's music isn't irrational; she knowingly draws on the breath of black musical stylings for the past 50 years or so and pulls them off. A song like, "Burn Down" begins almost like a 60's Supremes track before the beat kicks in and Glenn adjusts her flow. Her voice can go full jazz brassy, or she can turn it down and flow with contemporary trap tinged R&B production. Basically she's dope, and you should listen:
