On his new single, Detroit rapper Curtis Roach muses on how he "had to lose my mind for a minute and get it back."
It was worth the trip. If "Conscious" is any indication, Roach has made a quantum leap from his 2015 debut mixtape The Avenue. At once, he sounds both hungrier and more at ease, spitting rhymes over the track's diverse soundscapes. Those sounds come courtesy of London producer Origamik, who spins, stretches and squeezes an easy listening sample like a sci-fi J Dilla. Absolutely worth your three minutes? Yes, it is.
Roach’s new EP, Fake Smiles, is due this May.
