R&B songstress Sabrina Claudio first made a splash with fans via her YouTube channel, delivering an eclectic mix of covers ranging from Hiatus Kaiyote and Willow Smith to Astrud Gilberto and Amy Winehouse.
On “Confidently Lost”—the title track of her debut EP—the twenty-year-old Miami native captures her own self-assured sound. Lyrically, the track is a fairly by-the-numbers female empowerment ballad. But it’s Claudio’s voice and the song’s arrangement that push it to a higher level. Hooky, Destiny’s Child-style harmonies give way to mellow neo-soul feel, as Claudio’s unhurried notes gracefully ascend like languid smoke rings.
The Confidently Lost EP has been available through SoundCloud since May of last year, but it’s now seeing a release on all streaming services as of March 3rd. Check out her official site at sabrinaclaudio.com for more.
