MUSIC: Searls – Hurricane

Searls is an Irish electro-R&B singer making serious inroads into the warm, poppy territory between James Blake and Jessie Ware. His light-touch falsetto recalls Timberland, but that’s where such comparisons should end: “Hurricane” is an ambient ballad meant less for dancefloor conquering and more for gentle swaying in the dark.
The track was produced by London-based LJ Looper, whose strings-laden soundscape meshes convincingly with the intimate vocals of Searls. And probably only an Irishman could straight-facedly sell a lyric like “Who wants sun every day? It’s all about the rain and wind.”
Searls’ first EP, Follow, just dropped on June 17th. Check out his Soundcloud page for more.
