MUSIC: Tame Impala - Let It Happen

Tame Impala’s new album is a slight switcheroo from the sound they are known for. On their first two albums they mined psychedelic rock for their brand of guitar pop, this time they creep over into what’s basically modern pop music, EDM, for inspiration. While it might feel like a 180 for a guitar based rock band, they make the transition pretty seamless since their songwriting focus always started with very simple melodic ideas. The song that showcases the transition from their older sounds into the newer territory is probably their first single, “Let It Happen”. It begins like many Tame Impala songs with pretty psychedelic guitars…but suddenly that guitar part switches into a stutter-repeated sample and you just imagine an EDM drop hitting you at any second.
