Music: Yaarrohs - Flesh & Blood EP

The LA beat scene has made waves worldwide with names including Flying Lotus, Gasslamp Killer, Glitch Mob and the weekly party Low End Theory.  With the help of Glitch Mob and their 2014 single “Fly By Night Only”, singer/songwriter Yaarrohs has emerged as a fresh voice in the downtempo  scene.  The new EP, Flesh & Blood (Glass Air Records), is entirely self produced bringing back the ambient and dark sound of the late 90’s Electronica scene dominated by acts like Massive Attack and Bjork.

Having followed up a successful single and tour with the Mob there may have been pressure to conform to the sound people had now attached to her voice.  “I didn't feel the pressure to maintain any kind of ‘success’ following ‘Fly by night only’,” Yaarrohs says.  “By the time that song released the majority of my EP was already written.  The only pressure I felt was the kind that I put on myself, on whether I made good music and if anyone would like it.”  The freedom to helm her sound with support from a well-known group within her genre has emboldened her.  Despite the uncertainty that looms over new artists in the new musical economy, she is encouraged by the idea of a new frontier.  “The changes in the music industry don't scare me in the conventional sense.  I understand why other people are, especially people who are very financially invested already.  For myself though, this is an exciting time, a time where innovation can thrive, when young minds can create new systems.  And personally, that excites me.  I want to be a part of it!”

Soft vocals drifting in heavy reverb over stark percussion create a space to loose your self in the 6-track EP.  With the release she is hitting the road while getting to work on a follow up full-length release.  To get tour dates visit www.yaarrohs.com.

Flesh & Blood is on sale now on iTunes and can be streamed on her Soundcloud page.
