New Music: Anthony Hamilton - Soullife

I find it really sad and disgusting when I hear about good artists are treated like shit by their record companies. Actually, this is one of the reasons why I started this site. I was fustrated hearing great musicians such as Leela James, Fiona Apple, and yes, even Amerie, being pushed to the wayside by businessmen who have don't care about the art and soul of music.

On one hand, I can't blame the record companies. They are a business, and music is a commodity for them. The more they dumb down their music, the more the masses will buy. It's almost like a Wal-Mart phenomonon.

But artists like Anthony Hamilton ain't Wal-Mart. He's the old country store in the small Southern town that Wal-Mart is trying to drive out of business. I know that a lot of people have mixed feelings about Comin' from Where I'm From, Anthony's 2003 "debut," but regardless of what you think, the CD was a platnum selling success.

However, this success did not come without struggle.

Sometimes it truly pisses me off when I hear about artists like Anthony Hamilton. Anthony has recorded 3 albums, two of which have never seen the light of day. The third, Soullife, which is in stores this week, was recorded almost 5 years ago.

Although Hamilton was singing backup for such groups as the Nappy Roots, Anthony's music sat on the shelf for over a decade. "During that period, I was raging," Antony tells the New York Daily News.

Soulife isn't being marketed as a follup to Comin' from Where I'm From, but as a prequel. Anthony wants to show is fans a taste of what he is today. (via Diff Kitch, The In Crowd)
