Review: Elephant & Castle- Transitions

Thanks again to the wonderful free download emails from RCRDLBL.com, I was made aware of the latest effort from Elephant & Castle (no, not the pub/restaurant chain). Elephant & Castle is really producer David Vincent Reep and the free track was a beautiful bossa-flavored number called "En Memoria" (featuring Tune-Yards) which blends into a new age ambient sort of feel in the second part of the track.  The way it is put together is prime evidence of E&C's versatile musical skills.

There's a bit of everything in this album from hip-hop to ambient chill tracks and it makes for musical candy for the ears.  The catchy "Altered Scones" has a great  bass line melody with a just enough alternating light airy synth to make it a very cozy track and one you will want to come back to again and again.

There are so many beautiful moments in this album and the track "Formatting" is a another standout.  The ghostly ambient track was really interesting with the beautiful vocals of Rachel Fannan lightly covering the beautiful waves of synth.  A very light snare drum rolling throughout the track gave it a sense of urgency to add to the many other emotions invoked from listening.

Elephant & Castle is on the well known Plug Research label (Bilal, Thavius Beck, and even Flying Lotus back in the day) and Transitions was released on Tuesday the 27th of March.  I HIGHLY recommend you check this one out!
