Video: Aloe Blacc - I Need a Dollar (Theme Song from How to Make It in America)
I use to think that the only good thing about HBO's original series, How to Make it in America was the intro song, "I Need a Dollar". But I must admit, after catching the last few episodes I'm slowly starting to become a fan. There's something about the whole hustle/on the grind mentality that I somewhat relate to.
But no matter what your feelings are concerning the show, you've gotta admit that the opening song is pretty ear-catching, which is why I went digging around for it after Sunday's season finale. And now I'm finally able to put a face and name to the voice (pardon my late pass):
His name is Aloe Blacc (reppin' L.A) and for you serious Stones Throw heads you're probably already familiar with him either from his debut album, Shine Through which was originally released in 2006 or his impressive Latin cover of John Legend’s “Ordinary People (see below).
Now with a new LP in the works and with all the buzz he's been receiving for "I Need a Dollar", Aloe Blacc just may find his place in the music industry in 2010.
