SCREEN: New York Comic Con
Comic-Con returned to Manhattan’s Javitz center from Oct 6th to 9th. As ‘geek’ culture slowly overtakes mainstream pop culture the event has grown in kind with panels and stars from both the comic, television and movie world making appearances; it’s probably the only place you can go for a symposium on race, gender and sexuality in pop culture…then walk and get your costume repaired at a booth. Speaking of costumes for the entirety of the four days the West side of Manhattan was taken over by super heros, anime characters, and pop culture icons; the cosplay was in full effect with some astonishing works that took hours (and several cases of glue) to build. As usual the vibe was fun and friendly despite the crowds, and kids aged 5 to 50 were running around in their element.
