This Year's Awesome Con, Was Just That.....AWESOME!

Awesome Con DC 2024 has come and gone but Downtown DC felt it’s 3day weekend presence.

In the 11th year of its creation, Awesome Con DC filled in a void for pop culture in the DC Metropolitan area that it had been craving for years.

Attendees come from the DMV area, some come from abroad. Ranging from youth to seniors, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ, and all ethnic backgrounds.

Families and individuals come together to define the meaning of a Con from different aspects and create new ones at the same time.  Awesome Con DC  exhibits several areas of interest ranging from comics, novels, games (electronic and board), cosplay, arts and crafts, panels, celebrity autograph/Meet & Greets, various vendors and much more.

One the highlights of Awesome Con DC is the cosplaying. Costume play AKA Cosplay is the activity and performance art in which participants AKA cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to representing a character or characters.

You might experience a person cosplaying as Wonder Woman or Sailor Moon or a mashup of both. We saw cosplayers transform into Lando Calrissian, Edward Scissorhands, Chainsaw Man, even Troop Beverly Hills! And of course, there's Cosplay Competition that shows the appreciation of these cosplayers ranging from amateur to advance with rewards and cash prizes.

And that’s just a small tip of this pop culture iceberg. Especially, since attendance for Awesome Con DC can be over 60,000.

One of the other highlights were the Panels, both celebrity and ones who know the culture. Now you know that the celebrity panels were heavily attended. But, one of best panels was one that the Loading Snacks Crew conducted on "Being Comfortable Being A Geek", was fun and interactive. Loading Snacks are a staple at the local cons and an all around fun squad.

Words can't explain how much fun this con is, so maybe in 2025, come down and explore Awesome Con DC for yourself.  Come feel the energy and experience a different view of the Comic Con world.   You never know, you might like it. Excelsior!!!
