ARCHITECTURE: AIA's Top 10 Green Buildings

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has named its top ten sustainable projects of the year. The annual COTE Top Ten Green Projects list has been promoting environmentally responsible architecture forr 17 years. The competition is open to all architects licensed in the US.

This year's top ten projects were selected by a jury of architects and experts. The jury includes: Fiona Cousins, PE, Arup; Lance Hosey, AIA, RTKL; Keelan Kaiser, AIA, Judson University; Sheila Kennedy, AIA, Kennedy & Violich Architecture Ltd.; Rod Kruse, FAIA, BNIM Architects and Gail Vittori, Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems.

From green roof, to bathroom Finishes, most of the materials used on the Yin Yang House are recycled.

UMD shelled out $15 mil for this buiding by Ross Barney Architects to educate our future civil engineers. The building includes faculty offices, student workspaces, classrooms, and centrally located structural and hydraulics laboratories.

Other winners include: Charles David Keeling; Clock Shadow Building, Milwaukee, MO, by Continuum Architects + Planners; Federal Center South Building 1202, Seattle WA;  Marin Country Day School Learning Resource Center and Courtyard, Corte Madera, California by EHDD.  The New Norris House project is a registered LEED for Homes Platinum project, the highest certification standard for homes recognized by the US Green Building Council.
