Hurricane Katrina submerged his studio and destroyed 25 years' worth of artwork and ephemera. Lawson began to rework the damaged remnants into collages and started working in the manner in which he made the Figures in Jazz portraits.

Lawson explained his intentions for this body of work, "My wish was for these portraits to become universal documents, exploding with an inner energy not only found in music but also in our multi layered everyday life."

Unsung Jazz marries two of Antoine Sanfuentes' personal interests, jazz and documentary photography, together in an exhibition that lends an insider's look into the Washington, DC jazz scene. Sanfuentes is the Senior Vice President of NBC News. Most recently, Sanfuentes served as NBC News Vice President and Washington Bureau Chief. In his 20 years as a journalist, Sanfuentes has covered virtually every corner of the globe including Iraq and Afghanistan.

NURISH - The Center for a Creative Culinary Economy, is a DC-based nonprofit with a mission to nurture budding food entrepreneurs through mentoring, consulting, pop-up opportunities, and making connections that support DC's small food businesses.
