FOOD: Where to Eat If You're at SXSW
At SXSW, you've got everything from music, to artists, to designers, and everything else in between - but there's one thing we definitely can't forget, and that's food. Austin is known for being a hotbed for delicious food, so if you're at SXSW this year, make sure you experience as much of it as you can.
Here are some tips on where and what to eat, courtesy of Couch Sessions' very own Stone and Vickey.
Franklin’s BBQ
"Hands down the best BBQ you will ever have in your life. Ever. And I don’t like making bold statements like that. I come from a family that had BBQ pits big enough that they had to be towed on a trailer (I’m from Alabama BTW) but I have never had anything as good. Now the catch is that the place is only open for 2 hours a day and you have to stand in line for 2 hours to get in, but it’s worth it.
Pro tip: Try the turkey. I can’t stand turkey, mainly because it’s brittle and dry. However Franklin’s turkey is so moist and juicy—I don’t know how they do it. Add to that the peppercorn crust which permeates all the way down into the bone and you have the best turkey you have ever had." - Stone
You can find Franklin's at 900 E 11th Street, Austin, TX 78702.
Kimchi Tacos at Chil’antro
"Chil’antro is a favorite of mine last time at SXSW so I was glad to run into them again this year. Although they may be a bit overshadowed by some of the newer food truck offerings on the block. Having that said, their kimchi tacos are still the business." - Stone
Head to Chil'antro's website to find out where they are.
Turf N' Surf – Po'Boy
"The best po'boy I have had in life, ever. And I’m not exaggerating when I say this." - Stone
Find Turf N' Surf at 407 Lavaca Street, Austin, Texas 78701
Vickey's recommendations? Franklin's, Ironworks (if you just can't get enough barbecue), and Torchy's Tacos (for tacos, obviously, but I hear their breakfast is great too).
Enjoy the food - if you're out there, Instagram your food photos and tag them to @couchsessionsfood so we can see what you've been eating!
