GET TO KNOW...: Sah Ril

One of the pretty cool things about where I live is that everyone in my building seems to be involved in music somehow...or maybe it is just my neighbors. I don't know. What I do know is that you can walk into the building at any point of the day and hear someone blasting a jam. Sometimes it can be something wack (like my neighbors upstairs used to do), or it can be something sort of a classic. One of my neighbors, Sah Ril, happened to be playing something magnificent, probably Willie Hutch or Hall & Oats (he's that type of guy). Now...if you know me...you know that I am one of those people that will break out in a dance and get lost in the music at any point without regard of what is going on around me. I remember hearing what he was playing and I just hit a dip and twirl in the hallway. His music taste is impeccable. I figured at some point that he and I would have to meet, exchange external hard drives and become friends one day. It was written. I knew it.

Sah Ril is more than just a rapper. He's a musician's musician. His discipline in learning instruments, perfecting his cadence and hsi production, and then taking all of that and providing visual concepts make him a well rounded artist. Hailing from Newark, NJ by way of the DMV, Sah is the son of a preacher man, an actor, film maker, and creative spirit. He's been featured in plays and in film festivals showcasing his artistic reach, and has had his music featured on some pretty amazing sites like ThisIsRealMusic.

Out of pure happenstance, Sah and I ended up in the elevator together and we were talking about one of his songs "Unfinished Business" that I came to love. I am almost sure he's heard me play it dozens of times across the hall. We kept talking about a chance to sit and chat about his art. So after about a year of trying to get it together, we finally got a chance to do that. We hit up Iberia in the Ironbound section of Newark. Good seafood and wine will have you all the way open. Dope, right? The man is just amazing. You can follow up with Sah on Facebook or on his website. Make sure you look out for the new music that he's getting ready to drop. I heard a couple of the jams and he is on a completely new wave. I dig it. So will you. Look out for this guy because he is definitely one you should get to know.
