BITE OF THE MOMENT: Road Trip Pit Stop Heaven at Hot Dog Johnny's [NJ]

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

This bite of the moment is a far cry from NYC eateries, and just…kind of far in general. In the middle of nowhere New Jersey, set in a glorious town called Buttzville, lies the home of Hot Dog Johnny's - one of the finest dining establishments I've ever come across.

It's been around since 1944ish or something like that, so you know it's legit. There's no menu - it's just hot dogs, french fries, birch beer [in frosted mugs, duh], and, for some reason, buttermilk. We're not in clearly not in NYC anymore - two hot dogs and two sets of fries sets you back a mere 6 bucks, meaning that a round-trip subway ride [with a new card fee, of course] is the monetary equivalent of a meal for two. The hot dogs are no-frills, nothing mind-blowing but everything you'd ever really want from a hot dog - and then there's the fries, fried with a perfectly crispy outside and chewy inside and so easy that they might even trump the dogs. You might never find yourself in the barely NJ/almost PA area of Buttzville, but it's that kind of place that's worth the long, winding drive, so here's your excuse to get out there. Don't forget to purchase a Hot Dog Johnny's t-shirt, or better yet, sweatpants that say "Buttzville" on the butt [duh]. You'll thank me later.
