DRINK: Milk and Roses [Brooklyn]

After a great dinner the other weekend at Adelina's in Greenpoint, we decided it was best to take advantage of the warmer weather we were experiencing and find someplace we could sit outside and have a glass or two of wine.  We came to Milk and Roses on Manhattan Avenue and it was exactly what we wanted.
Used to New York bars, where outdoor space is packed and crowded, I was worried that this would be the case here.  But we walked in around 9pm on a Friday and I was pleasantly surprised.  There were a handful of people sitting in the front bar, where the walls were covered with old books and dim lighting illuminated the room softly.  It was incredibly romantic and the most perfect bar I could think of--and we had only just walked in.
We ordered some wine and decided to check out the patio area in hopes that it wasn't so empty inside because everyone was already sitting outside.  Surprise again!  Out of more than a dozen tables, not even half were occupied.  We took up residence in a table for six, not feeling guilty at all and sprawled out with our wine.  None of the furniture really matched but it was the most picturesque garden area I have seen in a really long time.  Twinkle lights were strung from every tree creating the most romantic and beautiful atmosphere.  I wanted to live here.  I was jealous of the neighbors who got to look out on this patio every night.

We stayed for quite a while and while more people did come by, it never got rowdy or crowded.  There were always a few empty tables and people kept the noise to a minimum.  The server outside was so friendly and knowledgeable about what was on the menu.  After our first glasses of wine we had some coffee to wake up a bit and it was the most picturesque way to spend a Friday night, I still can't believe it.
I can't wait to come back here more this summer and explore more of what Greenpoint has to offer, although I'd be hard pressed to find something better than Milk and Roses.
