DRINK: The West [Brooklyn]
For me, there can be nothing better than finding a place that not only serves great coffee, but also serves great beer. The West in Williamsburg does just this, offering a rotating selection of craft beers on tap, Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee brewing, and even a full bar for cocktails to quench any thirst you might have.
The rustic interior of the cafe offers bar seating, tables and window seats for people watching, while the patio out back is the perfect place to enjoy their cold brew coffee that’s served straight from the tap. The cold brew, drip coffee, and espresso are all sourced from the Brooklyn Roasting Company, so you know you’re getting a good cup of coffee. The latte art is just an added bonus to the smooth, flavorful espresso. They also serve doughnuts from Brooklyn’s own Dough, which is a much easier way to try them then waiting on line at Smorgasburg.
With a full bar at their disposal, The West mixes every kind of cocktail, including their own Black and White Russian and their twist on an Old-fashioned called “The New Fangled”. The craft beers on tap alternate throughout the year, but include local beers from Brooklyn Brewery and Sixpoint among many others.
The West is a place that people can come to either work by themselves, or to meet friends to unwind with a strong drink, alcoholic or non-alcoholic. The cafe offers itself as a gathering place for the neighborhood by holding reading series’, music and spoken word performances, and art discussions, bringing people together for all different types of events. Also offering Mad Men viewing parties and different trivia nights, this little cafe wants to be your home away from home. A neighborhood cafe with a liquor license? I will gladly call this place my home.
