EVENT: Booze, Boats, and Village Voice's Brunch Eats 2016
[All photos by Conor Rose]
I never really understood why certain meals had to be eaten at certain times, and therefore I've always been a huge advocate of breakfast for dinner. Lucky for anyone else who shares my beliefs, Village Voice created a whole event around it - this year's inaugural Brunch Eats, where over 20 NYC eateries gathered on the Intrepid on May 11 to showcase their best brunch bites for a sold-out crowd. Guests enjoyed small breakfast plates and the tunes of the Brooklyn Sugar Stompers while meandering around the ship's hangar and flight decks.
All breakfast items were represented here, with a heavy emphasis on breakfast sandwiches, but doughnuts, croissants, eggs, pancakes, and french toast all made an appearance as well. Our favorites: The Black Ant's Torta de Pato (duck carnitas, crispy potatoes, and Negra Modelo salsa, all sandwiched between a corn bun), Butter & Scotch's version of a BLT on a biscuit, and Streets BK's Cuban Sandwich with a Red Mojo dipping sauce. Drinks followed the brunch theme, too, with a variety of vodka cocktails (like Bloody Marys!) provided by Deep Eddy plus mimosas from Barefoot Wine & Bubbly - beer and wine were available for those who are under the impression that certain drinks aren't restricted to certain times either.
Scroll through for photos from the event and make sure to keep up with Village Voice for information on all future events!
