EVENT: Conquering All the Meat at Brisket King 2016

A few weeks ago, meat lovers congregated at Sanders Studio, engaging in all-you-can-eat meat party in order to bestow the most honorable meat award in New York City - Brisket King of 2016. Brisket slingers from all over the country showed up to woo the crowd with their meat talents with brisket stuffed into sandwiches, served solo, cured, and any which way they could think of.

Joining the high ranks of meat monarchy with company such as Hometown Bar-B-Que and Ducks Eatery, Texan traveling kosher pop-up Wandering Que took home the coveted Brisket King crown, going above and beyond with two plates - their lamb brisket pastrami as well as their cured lambcetta, draped delicately over a melon ball, which also won the "Cured" category.
Coming in at a respectable second overall was Crown Heights' Izzy's (my personal favorite - and they also took second place in "Smoked") with their no-frills, juicy, smoked brisket slices, garnished simply with a slice of pickle and onion. In other categories, Danny Meyer's Blue Smoke won the "Smoked" category, and The Cannibal took the top spot in "Brisket Innovation" with their brisket plopped atop crispy rye crackers, garnished with a grape.
Hudson & Charles had the most unique (and our favorite!) take on brisket of the night, with a five spice brisket slider with hoisin bbq sauce, kimchi slaw, wasabi peas, all on a potato roll. Butcher Jay Fox was on hand for a butchering demo, breaking down a beef shoulder after everyone was happily full and just as drunk off of Bombay Sapphire cocktails and all kinds of whiskey.
Other notable dishes included Marlow and Daughters' brisket dip slider - a brioche bun slathered with horseradish mayo, sandwiching cured brisket, and dipped into an au jus, and Hill Country BBQ's Texan style dry rub brisket piled onto crunchy Italian bread.
