EVENT: Happy National #VerdejoDay! [NYC]
When I was invited to celebrate the first annual #VerdejoDay on June 12th, my first thought was hell yes, I'd love to sample tons of wine on a summer night - but my second thought was - hey, what's Verdejo?
Eager to discover more about it, I joined a crowd of other wine-lovers on the rooftop of Tavern 29 in New York City to experience Verdejo wine myself. Verdejo, a deeply aromatic and dry white wine, is the signature grape of the Spanish wine region D.O. Rueda, and has been gaining popularity in the U.S. due to it's food-friendliness, versatility, affordability, and of course, its taste.
At the event, guests mingled throughout the crowd sipping on a selection of about 12 or so wines The Belondrade Y Lurton 2012 was enthusiastically recommended and also promised to be the best wine of the night (it was!) and all the other wines (I probably sampled about 6-7 - the pours were generous!) were enjoyable, and perfect for the sticky, hot summer evening.
Rounding out the night with light fare, temporary tattoos, cornhole, and straight pouring wine into people's mouths out of a decanter, #VerdejoDay proved to be more than just your typical wine tasting. See you for next year's event, or pick up one of these to keep the party going all summer.
