FOOD: Black Market [NYC]

It's not news that I love a good burger and that I'm always on the hunt for the best burger in NYC.  So when I moved to the East Village and walked past Black Market (Blk Mkt) and saw that they claim to have one of the best in the city, I had to go and see for myself.

I went in for brunch on a Sunday and was impressed from the menu right off the bat.  While they don't mess around with those all you can drink deals, the food prices are affordable and the menu was American traditional with a twist.  But my focus on this particular day was the burger.

I ordered the burger, plain, with gruyere cheese and was surprised when it came out the roll it was on.  It reminded me a lot of the Shake Shack buns--super soft but nothing fancy.  The burger itself was very good, although a little over cooked and while I wouldn't say that this is the best burger in the city, I will definitely come back again.  I saw for happy hour you can get a burger and a pint for $16.  Not too shabby if you ask me.

On a different occasion I tried the grilled cheese and tomato soup, which was just as great as the burger.  It's funny how sometimes something so simple can get so easily messed up, but they did it right here.  The blend of cheeses was exotic enough to keep me guessing but not too complex that I couldn't enjoy it.  And I'm very picky with tomato soup and theirs is perfectly creamy without being over the top.  I can see myself coming here a lot this winter.
