FOOD: Bohemian [NYC]

I almost feel a bit strange writing about Bohemian, but I just have to!  The reason I feel weird is because you cannot go to this restaurant unless you go with someone who has been there before...
Let me explain a little: Bohemian is a speakeasy Japanese restaurant that also happens to be members only, in a sense.  So in order to make a reservation, you have to go with someone who has been there before.  At the end of the meal, they will give you a card to fill out with your name/email/phone number and then you are considered a member and can go with anyone you'd like--letting them be members too.  Make sense?  Good!  Now the question is how do you find someone to go with who has been there before?  I'd recommend just asking your friends about it, because people have heard of it so hopefully that won't be an issue!  And when you do find someone, you must go!  I'm telling you, this place is not just "cool", the food is amazing.
Once you walk past the unmarked door on Great Jones, you are brought into what appears to be someone's living room.  There are a handful of tables and you feel like you've just won a lottery of sorts.  It's a very cool and exclusive feeling.
The tables are all pretty low to the ground so you feel like you are eating at someone's coffee table, but it's all very swanky, I promise!  I went with a group of six girls (moving forward perhaps I'll save it for a date spot or bring my mom!) but we still had a blast.  We made a reservation a month in advance for a Friday night and there are two seatings: 6 and 9.  We chose 9 and we honestly weren't done until nearly midnight.  So if you are going for 9pm, just know that you will be there for a while.
We started with some sashimi to start and the fish was incredibly fresh.  It was a little pricey considering we each like like A piece, but it was so good.  I'd definitely recommend that if you like fresh fish.  I shared the branzino with one of my friends and it was very good as well, but there were bones everywhere.  We had a bit of a tough time eating it, but if that doesn't bother you/you know what you're getting into, it was quite good.  Other plates included steak tartare, short rib sashimi, and sides of roasted potatoes.  What we didn't get but I would highly recommend is the steak or burger.  The restaurant is located essentially in a butcher shop, so the meat is top notch.  Definitely going to give that a try next time!
Not only was all of the food totally on point, but the cocktails were delicious.  I had a whiskey one, that I can't remember for the life of me what it was made of, but I could have had one after the other all night long.  They have a nice wine list and do have beer as well.  All and all this is a great experience I would highly recommend if you can find someone to take you!  Only in New York, right?
