FOOD & DRINK: Baltimore's Emporiyum
Last weekend, local heavyweights, Bryan Voltaggio, Spike Gjerde, and Erik Bruner-Yang, invaded Baltimore with culinary delights. Emporiyum, a two-day food market held in Fells Point, showcased local and national artisanal offerings like the scrumptious Apple Pie Crunch from The Mallow Bar as well as Momofuku Milk Bar’s ever-so addictive Crack Pie. Patrons enjoyed food samples, threw back brews by Heavy Seas and Flying Dog, and sipped cocktails from Charleston's Bittermilk.
Although regional and national shops were in attendance, my favorite eats of the day were 100% Baltimore. They included the pork bun by Dooby’s, the fried chicken leg topped with honey and snake oil by Shoo-Fly Diner, and the ginger clove macaroon by Pure Chocolate by Jinji.
After the self-induced food coma, I downed the smoothest hand pour from the guys at Vigilante Coffee.I am looking forward to trying more of their product once Maketto opens in the District. In all, the concept is awesome and hope to see Emporiyum return on a more frequent basis to the Charm City.
