I met up with some friends during the week at Grand Ferry Tavern which was the perfect place to catch up. The vibe felt more Manhattan than Brooklyn, and the prices and food sort of matched, but it was perfect for a night with the girls.
It felt sort of nautical and sort of Victorian in a way--with the wall paper and chandeliers, but it was quiet and the menu was definitely summery with lots of fish. We went on Thursday, which was a mistake as we found out on Wednesday they offer half priced bottles of wine.
We started with cocktails, the West Indian Summer being our mutual favorite. It is whiskey based with hints of grapefruit. Perfect for the summer. I had a glass of wine that was also delicious, a Pinot Bianco. We shared steamers, which were more like regular clams but equally delicious with lots of garlic bread to soak up all the broth afterwards. Our server said she would give us even more bread if we wanted to. And of course, how could you say no to that?
My friend ordered the bone marrow, which was much larger than we thought and was so incredible. I had never really had bone marrow before but I am definitely a fan now. It was rich and also came with that killer garlic bread. The brussels sprouts and and crispy trout rounded out our order and we all left satisfied on the food, drinks, and conversation.
