FOOD: Highlands [West Village, NYC]

Recently I have been loving cocktail bars and experimenting with drinks when I'm out. There's also nothing quite like a glass of red wine on a winter night! Perhaps my tastes are evolving--but one of my favorite low key cocktail bars has to be Highlands in the West Village. I have been a couple of times: summer, fall, and winter--and each time the drinks have been great.
I first discovered/heard about Highlands from an article I was reading about the owners opening up a bar in Montauk. So I looked to see what else they owned and Highlands seemed something that would be right up my alley. It's cozy, on West 10th Street in the West Village, and has delicious sounding cocktails. When I went with a few friends one night in the summer I was hooked! It was everything I expected it to be.
Their cocktail menu seems to change seasonally, but they do have some standard classic cocktails that are available all the time. One of my favorites is the Sweet Ginger Brown, which is basically just a dark and stormy. But I also had a Cherry Bomb, which I didn't see on the menu when I was there recently, but it was basically whiskey and maraschino cherries. So good!!
But what I love about Highlands is the crowd that goes there--tend to be on the more mature side, and the place itself is very cozy and would be perfect for a date night. In fact, I read in that same article (I can't seem to find the link to it though, unfortunately), about how a couple met at the bar and then got engaged there (on a later date!) and then eventually got married AT Highlands. Things like that are what I absolutely love about New York City.
