FOOD: North River Lobster Company [NYC]
Free anything in NYC without a catch (no pun intended) is hard to come by. So when I stumbled aboard the North River Lobster Company boat while walking up PIER 81 I was expecting the staff to ask me to pay up for the ride. Turns out this floating lobster shack is not only a free trip up the Hudson (to about 60th street and back approx. 45 min) it also offers reasonably priced food and drink. Although it boasts a large raw bar this ship is not exclusive to sea foodies. A Pat La Frieda Burger with Garlic Aioli and the Fish Tacos with Jicima Slaw are some of the staff favorites on the menu.
Quench your thirst with their Mason jar signature fruity themed drinks such as the Life Saver, Shark Bite, and the Port Hole. All Mason jar cocktails are $14, $7 Mon-Wed happy hour. And if you hold on to the jar your drinks after are discounted. Take the jar home too….it is yet another free thing!
This 4 story ship called “Destiny” provides a quant seating area towards the bow of the ship for an intimate dinner…Lobster anyone? Or grab a large group (I came with 25 people NO reservation) and we enjoyed the roof deck where we savored some yummy buffalo wings and buckets of corona on the 10:30pm Saturday Sail. Since stumbling on…and off… this boat I have become a regular in the last month. I find myself bringing visitors and locals alike for a sail and some grub. Sail Schedule.
