It's no secret that I would be totally happy with eating pizza every day for the rest of my life. And thankfully in New York, there are plenty of pizza places to try without getting bored. Rubirosa is one of those places that has been on my list for quite some time and I can finally say that as of last night it may have been the first time, but it certainly won't be the last.
Located on the most charming block in perhaps all of Manhattan (in my opinion) on Mulberry and Spring is a dimly lit, old school feeling Italian restaurant. Their pizza is legendary and I absolutely could not wait to try their Vodka Sauce Pizza. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
I brought my boyfriend here last night for his birthday since he loves a good pizza as much as I do. We shared a bottle of red wine which was amazing and felt really nice after all of the white wine we have been drinking over the summer. We smartly decided to share the small Vodka Sauce Pizza and take it from there and I am so happy we did. Their pizzas are pretty large. While the crust is super thin and crispy, the pie itself could easily make a meal for two people (which it did). We could have brought some home to try something else on the menu, but I'm sure we'll do that this time. The pizza was so good we didn't want to stop eating it!
And since we were in celebration mode, we went for dessert and ordered the Zeppole. I was not expecting all that much, maybe four smallish donuts but what we got instead had to be at least 20 munchkin sized donuts! They were incredible but sadly we were too full to finish them.
Rubirosa was everything we wanted and more but we're really looking forward to taking a few friends along with us for next time. I would love to try their pasta and it would help to have some more people to help finish those delicious donuts!
