FOOD: Supper [NYC]

My twin sister and her husband were visiting from California not too long ago and said that the two things they can never find in LA is really good Chinese food and really good Italian food.  With that in mind, I decided that I had to take them to Supper on 2nd and Ave A.
I made a reservation for the Monday after Christmas, and I'm really glad I did.  We were a small group of only four, but Supper is a pretty small restaurant that always seems to be crowded.  I would almost hate to imagine this place on a weekend...but I actually think it would probably be worth the wait.
They arrived a few minutes before us and were brought to the bar next door to wait.  This was actually really nice because that bar wasn't very crowded and they were able to sit and have a drink while they waited.  I hate it when a restaurant has you wait only to go to a bar that's seemingly just as crowded and busy.
We were brought to a pretty tight table and in my head I had a moment of panic: what have I done?  This can't be a good experience...
Let me rewind to say that I have been to several of the sister restaurants to Supper: Frank, Lil Frankies, and Sauce, all of which exist in the East Village/Lower East Side.  But Supper remained on my list so I figured if they wanted really good Italian food, I would deliver.
Once we put our coats on hooks, the table seemed much bigger and as soon as we got our drinks, my fears dissipated.  The wine, which was actually not chosen by me, was fantastic and everything we each ordered looked phenomenal.
My brother in law had the chicken parm, my sister had the beet salad and pasta and fagioli soup, my boyfriend had the timely priest stranglers (which was basically a type of pasta with marinara and ricotta, and I had a special which was pasta with mushrooms.
When I like something, I really, really like it.  And the mushroom pasta was something I could see myself happily eating over and over again.  I'm not usually a big pasta person, but this was on another level.  I really hope that Supper is one of those places that brings back their specials, or that they add this to their regular menu.  It was absolutely incredible I can barely describe it.  The portion was perfect, the pasta was delicious and the sauce was light but perfectly flavored.  I hate heavy, creamy sauces and this was just the right amount of creamy.  And the mushrooms were to die for.  All in all, this was an incredible night with family and amazing food.  A big hit for anyone looking for superb Italian.
