Restaurants in Midtown are a bit mysterious to me.  I've never worked in Midtown (until recently) and I feel very overwhelmed by pretty much everything around me.  For lunch, I have joined MealPass, which is amazing by the way, but when my sister and her husband were visiting from California and my dad wanted sushi near Grand Central one of the nights they were here, I was at a bit of a loss.  But I did my homework and found somewhere pretty perfect!
My family doesn't need anything fancy or over the top as far as meals go.  We don't need to go to the trendiest or newest spot in town, so take this for what it is.  What we wanted was a quiet place to catch up and share some food.
My dad has suddenly gotten into sushi and I was happy to let that dictate our meal while my sister was in town, who also happens to love sushi.  I did a quick search on Yelp and found several options, a couple of which were within blocks of Grand Central.  Perfect.  This would make it really easy for all of us to catch the train back to Westchester after dinner.  One of the options had $$$$.  No way.  Another, only 2 stars.  And then I saw Sushi Tsushima.  $$ and 4 stars--perfect.
After having a few drinks at The Beer Bar, always overcrowded with what can only be interns, but happens to be super convenient and outside, we walked over to 44th and 3rd.  We didn't have a reservation and since we were a group of six I was a little nervous, but we were seated right away.  Not only that, we were brought to our own private room almost, with sliding doors and a table for all of us.  The rest of the night was spent drinking and sharing plates of sushi and edamame, which was exactly what we wanted.  The prices were reasonable, especially for being in Midtown and so close to Grand Central, and the sushi was very good.  We all left saying how great it was and I would absolutely recommend Sushi Tsushima if you're looking for a quiet place to have some good sushi near Grand Central.
